About the Event
Advanced Professional Skills Workshop
Week 1 (November 2nd): How to Approach Microaggressions - The goal of this session will be to help people learn how to deal with and/or address micro aggressions in a professional environment. Whether these instances take place against you or someone you know. We will also focus on not being the person these micro aggressions come from. We welcome the Social Justice in Medicine Club from WAUSM as they lead this session!
Week 2 (November 8th): 1st Workshop Recap – This session will be a culmination of everything attendees learned over the summer, so let’s have fun and pull from our memory!
Week 3 (November 16th): The Basics of Debate – We will use this session to educate attendees on the primary tenets of debate so that you can be well-prepared whenever you are put into a situation where you may need to defend your position! Be ready to work on an assignment to prepare for the following session!
Week 4 (November 30th): Let’s Debate! – The goal of this session will allow everyone the opportunity to use the skills learned in the previous week and put them to use in a simulated debate!
Week 5 (December 7th): Primary Speech Skills – Attendees will be given the tools necessary to learn how to be comfortable speaking in front of a group and project confidence and competence! Be prepared to write a speech that will be used in the final session!
Week 6 (December 14th): To Speak or Not to Speak, that is the Question… or is it? – Our final session of the Advanced Professional Skills Workshop gives all attendees the chance to practice their speech skills and talk on a prepared topic chosen the week prior. This is a low-stakes environment, and we will have plenty of support from the facilitator and everyone who comes!
